For a list of all GNP physicians, visit our “Find a Physician” page, or call Greater Newport Physicians (GNP) Customer Service Department at 949-574-4575. Once you have chosen your primary care physician, call your health insurance plan directly to establish your primary care physician.

To be prepared for your first visit with your primary care physician, have all the new patient forms completed and bring them with you, bring a copy of your health insurance plan card, bring all your current medications, and prepare to pay your co-payment for an office visit. Confirm your enrollment with Greater Newport Physicians by contacting your health insurance plan prior to your appointment time.

Certain medical conditions may require that you see a specialist. Your primary care physician will make that determination and will request a referral on your behalf. Once your referral is approved, you will be notified, and you may then call the specialist directly for an appointment.

Yes. Always see your primary care physician first before receiving services from a specialist.

Most referrals are good for 90 days. Call your primary care physician if you need an extension.
When is it appropriate to visit the Urgent Care Facility for services?
When is it appropriate to visit the Urgent Care Facility for services?
If an urgent condition arises during non-business hours, call your primary care physician’s office and leave a message with the answering service. Your call will be returned by your physician or by a qualified healthcare professional. S/he will advise you on your condition, whether you should seek immediate care, or if your condition can wait until regular office hours.

In a life-threatening situation, go directly to the nearest emergency room. Inform the emergency room staff or the treating physician of your health insurance plan, your primary care physician’s name, and that you are a member of Greater Newport Physicians Medical Group. This will help to ensure that your primary care physician will be notified of your emergency room visit.

In a life-threatening situation, go directly to the nearest emergency room. Otherwise, contact your health insurance plan for advice.

Contact the Customer Service Department at Greater Newport Physicians at 949-574-4575, or visit our “Join GNP” page for a list of accepted health insurance plans. You should also check with your health insurance plan to confirm that Greater Newport Physicians is part of your plan’s network.

If you are a new patient, bring your medications with you to your first visit. The physician may approve a refill at that time. If you are not a new patient and have an existing, current prescription, contact your pharmacy. If you have run out of refills, your physician will determine if you need to continue the prescription. If you want a new prescription, you should make an appointment to see your primary care physician.

Yes, you may change your primary care physician by calling your health insurance plan. You should make the change prior to the 15th day of the current month for it to take effect on the first day of the following month. If you wish to change specialists, you should ask your primary care physician for a new referral.

GNP Customer Service staff cannot quote benefit coverage, nor copay information. Please contact your health insurance plan for this information.

What is a case manager?
What is a case manager?
Greater Newport Physician case managers are licensed nurses who are experienced in assisting a patient through the hospital stay. They will work closely with your hospitalists in order to identify and meet any special needs you may have both during your hospitalization and at the time of your discharge. Your case manager will arrange for after hospital needs that are covered by your health insurance plan such as extended care facilities, home health assistance and medical equipment or other services your physician may order. The case manager will also explain to you what services are covered by your health insurance plan.

May I request a copy of my medical records?
Yes. You may ask for a copy of your medical records from your primary care physician. You will be required to sign a release of records form prior to receiving your records, and there may be an administrative fee associated with the copying of your records.
